5 have dropped out

Everyday a bus picks us up at the hotel at 7. I have to walk (limp) there from my tent. Everyone looks around and sees who is missing today. So far I have managed to keep my seat filled. It gets harder everyday. The swimming 3.8 kms and doing a marathon everyday I can content with. The biking is the hardest. My ass is so messed up. I actually rubbed orajel on it today to see if I could numb it. No such luck. There is no spot on the sets that is comfortable.
It was a stinking hot day then just before the bike was finished it poured yet another day. Plenty of lightening but no hail today.

My legs felt like cement today and it was so hard to push the pedals. I keep saying circle circle circle. That gets tiring after 7 hours.

Time to go to bed, it's 11:30 and I just got done day six.

I have a feeling tomorrow is going to be hard.

Thanks for all the comments. I really look forward to checking them.

Stormy weather but better day

After a tough day yesterday, I was looking forward to a better day.
I remembered what Dave told me. Light on the peddles and no mashing.
I tried to pedal today and not hear the sound of my fishing line. I had a decent bike. Someone else gave me some cream for my ass and we cut a hole in the side of my bike shoes, so my swollen feet could expand.
I came off the bike and ran a couple of fast laps with different people in the race. I ate some pizza, ran another, had a massage, ran another.
Great day overall. Had to wear Ryans Canadian shoes because they were bigger than mine.

Thanks everyone for all the comments, it's like letters from home... I really look forward to reading them.

Who had day four

Whoever picked day four might of won the lottery yesterday.
I had eight hours ride time on the bike. My ass is so sore I can't put any pressure on it. I spent most of the time standing up.
We then had a downpour with huge gusts of wind and then to top it all off it hailed and lightening. Most kept going, it was brutal.I sat it out.

I didn't finish last night until two. My feet are too swollen and blistered that the hurt in my bike and running shoes.
I finished last night at two. Went back to my tent and discovered it was flooded. Not a good day.

Blisters, and saddle sores

I'm getting ready to start day four.
My feet have blisters because the track is slanted for the cars.
I'm sitting in the hotel waitings for the bus to take me to the pool.
The worst thing I dred is the bike back to the race track from the pool. It gets larger everyday.

Update:
They now have wi fi at the race, I have just done 70k on the bike (mainly standing up), I have now stopped for lunch. Pasta, mash potaoes with chives, some sort of breaded meat.

Everyone is helping me out. It's similar to the cycling group and the tri group. Everyone is willing to pitch in and help.

There is no time

I apologize for not blogging yesterday. Rough day and by the time I got finished all I could do was to get into my tent fully dressed with salt crusted all over me.
I was exhausted. Tomorrow in will take a picture of all the food they give us. Then first day it was pasta then pizza. You don't just get a piece, they ask you what kind you want then they give you the whole box. They weight us everyday at the pool. They are concerned, I'm the only one gaining weight. The second day we has pasta, pizza and veal scallopini. Today was chicken, a different pasta and chocolate cake. My ride time for the last 3 days has been 21 hours, however I do stop often to eat.
It's like 10 o 'clock and I just got finished my third. I'm eating pizza right now and updating this.
you might be able to go onto the ironman site, they tell me that they are updating it.
I am bagged, keep commenting, I think its the only good thing I can look forward to.

What the hell was I thinking

Day one officially over. Very few people speak English, so don't take any stats I tell you as gospel. They say I finished in 13:20. I was hoping to be slower than that. There was lots of surprises along the way today.
They take you to the pool in the morning that's 6km's in the neighboring town. The pool is way down in a valley. Your then expected to ride your bike back through these crazy streets and traffic that's not big enough for one car let alone two. The bike and the run are suppose to be on a race track, but today there was a ferrarri show so we couldn't use the race track for the bike. They decided that we would bike 6km's out, turn around and ride 6 back. Lots of hills. So we started out riding uphill to get back to the race start and then finished the rest of the 180 on more hills. It was stinking hot, I was told that I had one more lap of the bike to do, so I decided to hammer it. When I got back he said he was wrong and I needed to do another. After the race we find out that he was wrong and everyone has gone too far.
Started the run, tried to go slow. I ran 25 k then one of the experienced guys asked me what I was doing. I had passed some people on the track twice. I asked someone the time, if I kept that up I would have finished way too early. Don't want to pay for it all week. I walked run slowly the last 15.
Locked up both my calf muscles on the swim. The water is over my mouth in the shallow end and I'm used to grabbing the wall then turning around. The wall at both ends of the pool are 2feet high and have platforms on them. Kicking off the wall is hard if I can't grab the wall and turn.

It's like 12o'clock. I'm full and salt and have no shower. I'm gonna crawl into my tent and die, til tomorrow. I just pray all body parts work tomorrow.

Let's get this thing started

It's the day before the race so I might as well blab on and on because after today I think my free time will be limited.
The group went out for dinner last night. I have never seen so much food and wine. The meal lasted over two hours and believe it or not, I could not finish my meal. The owner told us that he would give us a sample of Sicilian food and that everyone should order one thing off the menu. I ordered a pizza that was bigger than a large one from home. The waiter dropped off 7 platters of brushetta, 7 platters of various cheese and meats, platter of buffalo mozzarella, platter of grilled vegetables with olive oil, platter of fried cheeses and vegetables and quiches galore. They had this dish that was cheese and prochuto wrapped in mash potato and breaded, then deep fried. Each one was the size of a huge baked potato.
They put a bottle of red wine between 4 people and constantly replaced it when it was empty. Unbelievable Meal......

My strategy for tomorrow is too keep a slow pace and try to come in around 15 hours. I start at 7:30 so I should be done around 10:30. They are 6 or 7 hours ahead of our time zone.
I'm trying to finagle a pillow and blanket for tomorrow. Did not sleep good. Karen gave me a little blow up mattress. She's a tiny little girl. It blows up one inch and it's the size of a small surf board and not wide. I kept rolling off.

My camping neighbors have now added dinning tents and rooms onto their caravans and trailers. My one neighbor has an expresso machine. They have crates of stuff for the ten days. Fluids, various gels, bars, powdered protein, three pairs of shoes and the list goes on and on.
I have my small tent, a jar of Vaseline for my bikes sores and a suitcase.
I didn't want to look like an amateur so I told them I was a minimalist.
I'm somewhat anxious to get the race started, the more I look at everyone preparedness and supplies the more worrisome I get.

As they say in Italy...... Chow....
